How To Dilute Silicone Defoamer?
Silicone defoamer is often diluted to improve application ease, reduce viscosity, and enhance dispersion in foaming systems. Proper dilution(see Fig1: Silicone defoamers dilute process) ensures faster defoaming without damaging the agent’s effectiveness.
Below we will introduce the dilution method in two cases based on different use
Figure1: Silicone defoamer dilute process
Dilute Silicone Defoamers Method #1
- Weigh silicone defoamers
- Add water into antifoam, stir while adding water
- Add an acrylic thickener
- Add 20% NaOH solution until pH7-8
- Add proper amount of fungicide and stir well
Dilute Silicone Defoamers Method #2
- Weigh water and silicone defoamers.
- Add an acrylic thickener to water
- Add 20% NaOH aqueous solution until pH7-8
- Add the thickened water to the antifoam and stir
- Add proper amount of fungicide and stir well
Remark
- Dilution errors can lead to issues like agent breakage, creaming, or prolonged mixing times. Always consult with your supplier for the best method based on usage.
- In method #1 & 2, if thickener is not added or the pH value is not adjusted, it will lead to creaming or breaking of silicone defoamer emulsion. If no fungicide is added, it will allow emulsion to develop microbes during storage which can cause a foul smell
- When simply dilute with water, Pay attention to adding water while stirring the silicone defoamer. If you do not add water slowly and cooperate with stirring, antifoam creaming or breaking will appear.
- Pay attention to dilution. Use as quickly as possible.
- Method #1: it is prone to creaming and breaking with aging, so it’s only suitable for the silicone defoamer with good dilution stability.
